Vendakkai kulambu recipe with step by step pictures
Vendakkai kulambu is a traditional tamilnadu recipe. This recipe was learnt from my mom. It is a very simple and tasty kulambu recipe. I often make this kulambu especially for my daughter. She hates onion, tomato in her meal. In this recipe, i have grind onion, tomatoes and so she loves it. This was served with rice and also for idlis.

Ingredients :
. Ladies finger(vendakkai) - 1 cup ( chopped into 1 inch pieces)
. Onion - 1 big sized ( roughly chopped), 1 small sized (finely chopped)
. Tomato - 1 big sized (roughly chopped)
. Garlic cloves - 8 nos.
. Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
. Oil - 1 tblsp
. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
. Urad dal - 1 tsp
. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
. Chilli powder - 1 tblsp
. Coriander powder - 2 tblsp
. Salt to taste
. Tamarind water - 3 tblsp

Method :
1. Heat oil in a kadai. Add onion, tomato, garlic. Saute until mushy. Let it cool and grind to smooth paste along with spice powders and Coconut by adding water.
2. Heat oil. Add chopped ladies finger. Saute for 2 min in medium flame. Keep it aside.
3. In the same kadai, add mustard seeds, urad dal. Let it splutter and turns to golden brown. Add onion. Saute until translucent.
4. Add sauteed ladies finger. Add ground paste. Mix well. Add required water and salt. Cook in medium flame for 10 mins.
5. Add tamarind water. Cook for 10 more min. Vendakkai kulambu is ready.

1) Heat oil in a kadai.
2) Add roughly chopped onion, tomato and garlic.
3) Saute until mushy.
4) Let it cool and transfer to the mixer jar.
5) Add grated coconut.
6) Add turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder.
7) Grind to smooth paste by adding little water.
8) Heat oil in a kadai. Add chopped ladies finger.
9) Saute for 2 min. Keep it aside.
10) In the same kadai, add mustard seeds, urad dal.
11) Let it splutter and turns to golden brown, add chopped onion.
12) Saute until translucent.
13) Add ground paste.
14) Add ladies finger.
15) Mix it well.
16) Add 1 cup of water.
17) Add salt.
18) Cook for 10 min in medium flame. Add tamarind water.
19) Cook for 10 more mins. Switch off the flame.
21) Vendakkai kulambu is ready.
