Onion tomato thokku

Onion tomato thokku - sidedish for dosa and chapathi. 


             Tomato onion thokku is a sidedish for dosa and chapathi . People who don't like ginger -garlic  smell then this recipe is a very good option. 
             This tomato onion thokku is very easy to cook . We don't want to grind anything.  We don't need any other vegetables other than tomatoes and onion. 

           Adding gingelly oil to this recipe gives you the best taste.  Try this. 


Ingredients :

.  tomatoes  -  2  cup ( finely chopped )
.  onion - 1cup ( finely chopped )
.  turmeric powder  - 1 pinch 
.  Chilli powder  - 1 tsp 
.  Coriander powder  - 2 tsp 
.  Salt to taste 
.  Oil - 3 tblsp 
.  Mustard seeds  - 1tsp 
.  Urad dal - 1 tsp 
.  Bengal gram - 1tsp 

Method : 

      1.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds,  urad dal,  bengal gram. 

      2.  After the dal becomes golden brown,  add the chopped onion.  Saute until onion becomes translucent. 

     3.   Add chopped tomatoes.  Saute until it turns mushy. 

    4.  Add turmeric powder,  chilli powder,  coriander powder and salt . Mix it well. 

    5.  Cover the kadai and cook for 10mins by stirring inbetween. 

    6.   Add 1 tblsp gingelly oil and mix it well.  Switch off the flame. 

    7.  Serve with dosa or chapathi.

       1) Heat oil in the kadai .

       2) Add mustard seeds,  urad dal,  bengal gram. 

       3)  After it crackle,  add chopped onion. 

        4)  After the onion becomes translucent,  add chopped tomatoes.

         5)  When the tomatoes becomes mushy,  add turmeric powder. 

        6) Add chilli powder. 

         7)  Add coriander powder. 

           8)  Add salt. 

         9) Mix well.  Cover the kadai.  Stir in between. 

       10)  After 10 mins,  add gingelly oil. Mix well.  Switch off the flame. 

        11)  Serve. 

Note: 

         1.  Do not add water to this recipe.  Tomatoes itself leaves water.
