Ragi vermicelli upma/ breakfast recipes

Ragi vermicelli upma recipe with step by step pictures 


             I usually make rice vermicelli upma for breakfast.  To make it even healthier,  i made ragi vermicelli upma which tastes soo good.  My mom taught me this recipe.  I made simple upma,  if you want you can add some vegetables too.  Try this recipe.

Ingredients  :

.  ragi vermicelli  - 1 packet 
.  Onion - 1 big onion( chopped lengthwise)
.  dry red Chillies - 4
.  curry leaves - 1 sprig 
.  Oil - 2 tblsp 
.  Mustard seeds  - 1 tsp 
.  Urad dal - 1 tsp 
.  Bengal gram - 1 tsp 
.  Salt to taste 

Method  :

            1.  Take the vermicelli.  Soak in normal water for 5 min.  Strain it. place in steamer or idli maker.  Cook for 10 min in mediun flame. 
            2.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds, urad dal and bengal gram.  
            3.  After it crackle,  add onion,  curry leaves and dry red Chillies. Saute until it becomes translucent. 
           4.  Add the steamed vermicelli . Add required salt.  Sprinkle 3 tblsp of water.  Mix well.  
          5.  Cover and cook for 1 min.  Serve. 

Pictorial  :

           1) Take the ragi vermicelli. I used anil brand.  You can use any of your choice. 


          2) Soak the vermicelli in normal water for 5 min.

          4) Place in steamer or idli maker. 


          5) Cover and cook for 10 min in medium flame. 


         6)Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds, urad dal and bengal gram. 



          7) After it  splutters,  add chopped onion,  curry leaves and dry red Chillies. Saute until it becomes translucent. 



          8) Add steamed vermicelli. 



          9) toss well. 


           10) Add salt. Mix well. 


           11) Sprinkle 3 tblsp of water.  Cover and cook in low flame for 1 or 2 min. 


           12) Serve.
