Semiya upma/vermicelli upma - Breakfast recipe

Semiya upma recipe with step by step pictures 


            Semiya upma is a south Indian breakfast recipe.  Easy and tasty semiya upma is liked by kids as it looks like noodles. I often make this recipe whenever I feel tired and wanted to cook a meal in short time.  To make it even healthier,  i have added vegetables to it.  You can add your favorite vegetables.  Try this recipe .

Ingredients  :

.  semiya/vermicelli  - 1 packet 
.  Onion - 1big onion ( chopped lengthwise)
.  carrot - 1/2 cup ( cubed)
.  beans - 1/2 cup (finely chopped )
.  Dry red Chillies -3
.  mustard seeds - 1tsp 
.  Urad dal - 1tsp 
.  Bengal gram - 1tsp 
.  Asafoetida /hing - 1/2 tsp 
.  Curry leaves - 2sprig 
.  Hot Water - 1 1/2 cup 
.  Oil - 3tblsp 

Method  :

       1.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds , urad dal and bengal gram.  

       2.  After it splutters,  add hing,  curry leaves and dry red Chillies .

       3.  Add onion.  Saute for 30 secs.  Add carrot and beans.  Saute until raw smell goes out. 

      4.  Add semiya.  Roast for 1min. 

      5.  Add hot water and salt.  Mix it.  Cover and cook in low flame.  Stir in between. 

     6.  After the water gets dry,  switch off the flame.  Serve. 

Pictorial  :

             4) saute for 15sec.  Add chopped carrot and beans.  Saute it until raw smell goes out. 


              5) Add semiya.  


              6) Roast it for 30 secs. 


                7) Add hot water to it. 


               8) Add salt. 


            9) Mix well. Cover and cook until the water gets dried. Stir in between. 


                12) switch off the flame. 


                  13) Serve.
