Snake gourd kootu/ pudalangai kootu

Pudalangai kootu recipe with step by step pictures 


                 Kootu is a less spicy,  flavorful and mild taste recipe that goes well with steamed rice.  It can be made with many vegetables and today I made with pudalangai(snake gourd).  It is a healthy recipe that it has both dal and vegetables . Try it.

Ingredients  :

.  Pudalangai/ snake gourd  - 1( finely chopped)
.  chana dal/ kadalai paruppu - 2tblsp 
.  Moong dal/ paasi paruppu - 1/2 cup 
.  onion - 1 small onion (chop lengthwise )
.  green chillies - 2
.  cumin seeds - 2tsp 
.  Turmeric powder  - 1 tsp 
.  Thick coconut milk - 1cup 
.  Mustard seeds  - 1tsp 
.  Curry leaves - 1sprig 
.  Dry red Chillies - 2


Method  :


           1.  In a pressure cooker,  add chopped snake gourd,  onion,  slited green chillies,  moong dal,  channa dal,  turmeric powder and cumin seeds.  Pressure cook for 4 whistles. 

            2.  After pressure releases,  add coconut milk and salt.  Cook for 5 minutes. 

           3.  Temper with mustard seeds,  curry leaves and dry red Chillies. 

           4.  Kootu is ready to serve. 


Pictorial  :

            1) In a pressure cooker,  add chopped snake gourd,  onion,  moong dal , channa dal,  green chillies,  turmeric powder and cumin seeds. 

    
              2) Pressure cook for 4 whistles. 


             3) Add coconut milk. 


             4) Add salt.  


              5) Cook for 5 minutes.



             6) Temper with mustard seeds,  curry leaves and dry red Chillies. 


             6) Serve. 


Note :

         I have added coconut milk to this recipe,  if you want a thick consistency then add ground coconut paste to it.
