Chinna karuvadu varuval/ small dry fish stir fry

Chinna karuvadu varuval recipe with step by step pictures

Chinna karuvadu varuval is a sidedish recipe for rice.  Karuvadu (dry fish)  can be made in thokku,  kulambu and fry recipes.  Today i made this stir fry as a sidedish for lunch.
I dont know the exact name of this dry fish.  If anyone knows,  then tell me in the comment section.  Some people dont like the smell of the karuvadu.  But once it is cleaned and cooked,  then it has nice aroma and non- vegetarians will love this recipe.

This recipe had  taught by my mom to me.  It just looks like poriyal.  Other dry fish fry recipes are very dry.  But this is very soft to eat and its my daughter's favourite.  We dont want to scrap the fish and remove heads.  It is cooked as it is but must be cleaned twice or thrice in hot water.  Hope you like the recipe.  Give this a try and let me know how it turns out to you.

Enjoy the food!

Pictorial :

                1) Take the cinna karuvadu.

                2) Boil water in a saucepan.

                 3) put the karuvadu into hot water.  Wash it throughly two to three times.

                4) 4th time,  In the boiling water,  add turmeric powder.

                 5) Put the washed karuvadu into it. Boil it for 2 min.

                6) Strain the karuvadu like this.  Because if we drain the water,  some dust will remain in it.  So always strain using laddle.

                7) similarly strain all the karuvadu.  Keep it aside.

                8) Heat oil in a kadai.

                9) Add chopped onion.

               10) saute until it becomes golden brown.

               11) Add karuvadu.

              12) saute for a min.

               13) Add chilli powder.

               14) Add salt.

                15) Drizzle 2 tblsp of water. Cover and cook for 5 min. Stir in between.

                17) Saute for 2-3 min.

               18) Chinna karuvadu fry is ready to be served.

Note :

          1.  Wash the karuvadu well in hot water.  So that it is clean and soft.
          2. Always taste it before adding salt.  Because the karuvadu itself has salt.
