Gram flour sambar recipe with step by step pictures  


            Gram flour sambar is a sidedish for idli, dosas.  It is an instant sambar.  After marriage, i was learning cooking with simple recipes.  At that time, my MIL taught me this recipe.  It is very easy to cook and tastes yummy.  I always use gram flour for marination and making dumplings.  But Whenever I have no vegetables other than onion and tomato and wanted to make sambar,  i would go for this recipe.  Hope you like it.  Try it and let me know.

Ingredients  : 

.  Gram flour - 2 tblsp 
.  Onion - 1 big onion (chopped lengthwise )
.  tomatoes - 1 small sized( chopped lengthwise )
.  green chilli - 1 (slited)
.  curry leaves - 1 sprig 
.  Oil - 1 tblsp 
.  Mustard seeds  - 1 tsp 
.  Urad dal - 1 tsp 
.  Bengal gram - 1 tsp 
.  Turmeric powder  - 1/2 tsp 
.  Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp 
.  Salt to taste 
.  Kasuri methi - 1 tsp (optional )
.  coriander leaves  - to garnish 

Method :

         1.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds, urad dal and bengal gram dal. Let it crackle and turns to golden brown. 
         2.  Add onion, green chilli and curry leaves.  Saute until onion becomes translucent .
        3.  Add tomatoes.  Saute for a min. Add turmeric powder and chilli powder. Saute for few secs. 
       4.  Add 1 cup of water.  Add salt.  Cook for 5 min. 
       5.  Take gram flour in a bowl.  Add water and make a slurry. Add this to sambar. 
      6.  Add required water.  Mix well.  Cook for 5 min.  Add kasuri methi and coriander leaves . Switch off the flame.  Serve. 


Pictorial  :

       13) Add 1/2 cup of water.  Make slurry without any lumps. 


      14) Add this slurry to the sambar. 


      15) Add 2 cups of water. 


      16) Cook for about 5 min. 


      17) Add kasuri methi and coriander leaves . Switch off the flame. 


      18) serve. 


Note : 

       1.  when you are adding the gram flour slurry,  immediately add water and dilute it.  Otherwise it will form lumps.  
       2.  I have added kasuri methi.  It gives nice aroma.  You can skip that too.
