Vendakkai mor kulambu recipe with step by step pictures 


               Mor kulambu is a traditional south Indian kulambu recipe.  It is made with ladies finger( vendakkai ) , paruppu urundai,  bonda,  vada,  and some other vegetables . Among all,  vendakkai mor kulambu is the popular one.  This recipe gives you cooling effect in your body,  and it is perfect for summer lunch menu.  In traditional festivals mor kulambu is also one of the important recipe.  It tastes little sour,  yet very yummy.  
           
             Mor kulambu can be served with any stir fried vegetables like,  Brinjal pepper fry,  Ridge gourd fry,  Ladies finger fry.  It can also be served with traditional Beans paruppu usili

Ingredients  : 

.  ladies finger (vendakkai ) - 250 gms (approximately )
.  curd - 300 ml (Approximately )
.  Chana dal - 1 tsp 
.  Toor dal - 1 tsp 
.  Oil - 2 tblsp 
.  Mustard seeds - 1 tsp 
.  Fenugreek seeds - 1 tsp 
.  Curry leaves - 1 sprig 
.  Dry red Chillies  - 2 
.  asafoetida - 1/4 tsp 
.  salt to taste 

    To grind : 

.  coconut - 3 tblsp (grated) 
.  shallots - 3 
.  garlic  - 3 
.  Ginger - 1/2 inch piece 
.  Green chillies - 3 
.  cumin seeds - 1 tsp 
.  Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

Method : 

         1.  chop the ladies finger into 1 inch size.  Heat 1 tsp of oil in a kadai.  Roast the ladies finger until it becomes golden brown. Keep it aside. 
        2.  Soak chana dal and toor dal for about 30 min.  Grind the ingredients given under to grind along with soaked dal. 
       3.  Take curd in a bowl.  Pour the ground paste.  Mix well without lumps. 
      4.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.  After it crackle,  add curry leaves, dry red Chillies, asafoetida.  Saute for a sec.  Add roasted ladies finger.  Saute for few secs.  
      5.  Add curd mixture along with 2 cups of water.  Add salt. Cook in medium flame for about 7-10 min.  Mor kulambu is ready to serve.

          1) Chop the ladies finger (vendakkai) into 1 inch size. 


         2) Heat 1tsp of oil in a 
Kadai.  Put the chopped ladies finger. 


         3) Roast until it becomes golden brown. 


         4) Take thick and little sour curd in a bowl. 


         5) Whisk it without any lumps. 


         6) Soak chana dal and toor dal in water for 30 min. 


       7) Take all the ingredients given under to grind in a mixer jar. 


        8) Add soaked dal. 


       9) Grind to a smooth paste by adding little water. 


       10) Add the ground paste into curd. 


        11) Mix it well. 


        12) Heat oil in a kadai.  


        13) Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds. Let it splutter and becomes golden brown. 


        14) Add curry leaves, dry red Chillies and asafoetida. Saute for a sec. 


        15)  Add roasted ladies finger . Saute for few secs. 


         16) Add curd mixture. 



         17) Add 2 cups of water. 


         18) Add salt. 


         19) Cook in medium flame for about 7-10 mins. 


        20) Mor kulambu is ready. Serve.  


Note : 

         1.  sour curd gives you the best taste. 

          2.  Do not burn fenugreek seeds. 

          3.  Do not overcook as the curd might gets curdled.
