Chana masala sundal recipe with step by step pictures 


               Chana masala sundal is a snack recipe which is served in auspicious days especially in navrathri,  vinayakar chadhurthi.  This recipe is a spicy version that is made with spice powders.  I have already posted the Chana sundal recipe which is a basic recipe and less spicy.  Try this spicy sundal recipe,  it tastes yummy.  I cook this recipe for my hubby as a evening time snack.

Ingredients   :

.  White chana  -  1 cup 
.  Curry leaves   -  1 sprig
.  Chilli powder  -  1/2 tsp
.  Coriander powder -  1/2 tsp
.  Turmeric powder  -  1 pinch
.  Salt to taste 
.  Oil  -  2 tsp
.  Mustard seeds  -  1 tsp
.  Urad dal  -  1/2 tsp
.  Asafoetida  -  1 pinch 
.  Grated coconut -  2 tblsp

Method  : 

           1. Soak chana overnight.  Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. Drain the water.  Keep it aside. 

          2. Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds,  urad dal.  After it crackle and turns to golden brown,  add curry leaves and hing. 

         3. After it sizzle,  add cooked chana.  Saute for a min. Add spice powders and salt. Mix well.  Cover and cook in low flame for 5 mins. 

       4. Add grated coconut.  Mix well for few secs.  Switch off the stove.  Serve hot. 


Pictorial   :

          1) Soak chana overnight or 8 hours. 


          2) Pressure cook chana with little salt for 3-4 whistles. Drain the water and keep it aside. 


          3) Heat oil in a kadai. 


         4) Add mustard seeds and urad dal. 


        5) After it crackle and turns to golden brown,  add curry leaves and hing. 


        6) After it sizzle,  add cooked chana. 


        7) Saute for a min. 


        8) Add turmeric powder,  chilli powder and coriander powder. (adjust the quantity of spice powders as per your taste). 


        9) Mix it well.  Cover with lid and cook for 5 mins in low flame until raw smell of the spice powders goes out. 

        10) Add little salt if needed and mix well.  ( chana has some salt as we added while pressure cooking).


       10) Add grated coconut. 


        11) Toss well for a min.  Switch off the flame. 


        12) Chana masala sundal is ready to be served.
