Karuveppilai kulambu recipe with step by step pictures 


              Karuveppilai kulambu is a healthy and tasty kulambu recipe of south-india.  It is served with hot rice as an accompaniment.  It tastes too yummy and it is very good for hair growth as we have added more curry leaves (karuveppilai)  in this kulambu. It has the strong flavour of curry leaves and i like it very much.  Do try at your home and sure you like it.

Ingredients   :


.   Karuveppilai / curry leaves   -  1 handful
.   Onion  -  2 medium sized 
.   Tomato  -  2 small sized 
.   Garlic cloves -  6 nos. 
.   Gingelly oil  -  5 tblsp
.   Mustard seeds  -  1 tsp
.   Urad dal  -  1 tsp
.   Fenugreek seeds  -  1/2 tsp
.   Cumin seeds  -  1/2 tsp
.   Asafoetida  -  1/2 tsp
.   Chilli powder   -  1 tsp
.   Coriander powder   -  1 tsp
.   Kulambu powder   -  2 tblsp
.   Salt to taste 
.   Tamarind   -  1 small lemon sized
.   Jaggery -  1 tblsp 

Method  : 


            1.  Take 1 onion,  1 tomato and 1 handful curry leaves in a mixer jar.  Grind it to a smooth paste by adding little water.  Keep it aside. 

          2. Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds,  urad dal,  cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds.  After it sizzle,  add garlic and asafoetida.  Saute for few secs.  

        3. Add onion and curry leaves.  Saute until onion becomes translucent. Add tomato.  Saute until mushy. 

        4. Add the ground curry leaves paste.  Saute for 2 mins.  Add spice powders and salt.  Saute until oil separates. 

        5. Soak tamarind in hot water and make puree.  Add it to kadai.  Add enough water.  Mix well.  Cook for 10 mins. 

       6. Add jaggery.  Mix well.  Cook until oil oozes out.  Karuveppilai kulambu is ready.

              Take 1 roughly chopped onion, 1 roughly chopped tomato and 1 handful of fresh curry leaves in a mixer jar


Grind it to a smooth paste by adding little water.  Keep it aside


Heat oil in a kadai


Add mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds


After it sizzle,  add asafoetida and garlic cloves.  Saute for few secs


Add finely chopped onion and few curry leaves 


Saute until onion becomes translucent 


Add finely chopped tomato.  Saute until tomato becomes mushy


Add ground curry leaves puree


Saute for 2 mins


Add chilli powder, Coriander powder, Kulambu powder and salt 


Saute until oil separates


Soak tamarind in hot water for 10 mins.  Make it as puree.  Add it to kulambu 


Add 1/2 cup of water


Cook for 10 mins


Add jaggery


Cook until oil oozes out


Tasty and healthy karuveppilai kulambu is ready.  Serve with hot rice
