Ulundhu kanji (sweet ulunthu kanji) recipe with step by step pictures 


                Ulundhu kanji is a healthy and tasty drink and it is very good for women.  This is a sweet kanji and it is liked by kids too.  It is a easy to cook recipe that you can make it everyday as a evening time drink.  Do try at your home.  Hope you like this porridge recipe.

Ingredients   :

.   Ulundhu / urad dal  -  2 tblsp
.   Jaggery powder  -  4 tblsp (as per your taste) 
.   Cardamom   - 3
.   Grated coconut   -  2 tblsp 
.   Water -  2 cup 

Method  :


              1.  Soak urad dal in water for 3 -  4 hours or at least 1 hour.  Drain the water and transfer it to mixer jar.  Grind it to a smooth paste by adding 2 tblsp of water. 

            2. Add 2 cups of water.  Mix well.  Filter it into a saucepan.  

           3. Take jaggery in a bowl.  Add 2 tblsp of water.  Heat it to make a syrup.  Filter it to remove any dirt.  

          4. Add jaggery syrup to saucepan.  Add cardamom.  Mix well.  Switch on the flame.  Place the saucepan over it.  Keep the flame to medium -  low heat.  

          5. Stir continuously to avoid sticking to the bottom.  It becomes foamy.  Cook until raw smell goes out and becomes thick.  Turn off the flame.  

          6. Add grated coconut.  Mix well.  Serve it warm.

                    Take jaggery in a bowl 



Add 2 tblsp of water


Heat it to make a syrup


Filter it to a bowl to remove any dirt.  Keep it aside


Soak urad dal for about 3 -  4 hours,  atleast 1 hour


Drain the water.  Transfer it to a mixer jar


Grind it to a smooth paste by adding 2 tblsp of water


Add 2 cups of water.  Mix well


Filter it into a saucepan 


Add jaggery syrup and cardamom ( you can add cardamom powder too) 


Mix well.  Place it over the flame.  Keep the flame to medium -  low.  


Cook until it becomes foamy.  Stir continuously to avoid sticking at the bottom.  Cook until raw smell goes out and becomes thick.  It will take 2 -  3 mins


Turn off the flame.  Add grated coconut.  Mix well


Ulundhu kanji is ready.  Serve it warm.
