 Pasi paruppu payasam recipe with step by step pictures



                 Pasi paruppu payasam is a healthy indian sweet or desert recipe. It is made with jaggery and few more ingredients which tastes too good. It can be cooked within 20 mins. It is one of the dishes in south-indian traditional festive meal. Do try at your home and sure you love it.

Ingredients  :


.  Moong dal / pasi paruppu  -  1 cup
.  Jaggery  -  1 1/2 cup
.  Cardomon  -  4 ( you can use cardamom powder) 
.  Cashew nuts  -  10
.  Ghee  -  2 tblsp
.  Grated coconut  -  4 tblsp
.  Salt  -  1 pinch


Method  :


              1. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add cashews. Saute until golden brown. Remove to plate. Add grated coconut. Saute for a min. Remove to plate. 

            2. Add washed moong dal. Saute for few secs. Add water. Pressure cook for 4 whistles. After pressure releases, gently mash it with a laddle. 

            3. In the meantime, take grated jaggery in a saucepan. Add 1/4 cup of water. Cook until jaggery dissolves. Turn off the flame. Filter it to remove any dirt. 

             4. Add jaggery liquid and cardamom into mashed dal. Mix well and cook for 5 mins. Add roasted cashews and coconut into it. Mix well. Turn off the flame. Pasi paruppu payasam is ready.

                   Heat ghee in a pressure cooker


                             Add cashew nuts


       Roast it until golden brown. Remove to plate


                          Add grated coconut


            Roast it for a min. Remove to plate


            Add washed moong dal to it


            Mix it for few secs. ( be careful, it might stick to the bottom) 


            Add 1 cup of water and mix well


            Pressure cook for 3 - 4 whistles


            Gently mix it with a laddle. Do not mash it well. 


          In the meantime, take grated jaggery in a saucepan


                       Add 1/4 cup of water


           Cook  until jaggery gets dissolved


           Filter the jaggery to remove any dirt and add it to cooked dal. 


           Add enough water to get watery consistency and add crushed cardamom


                             Cook for 5 mins


            Add roasted cashews and coconut


               Mix well and turn off the flame


       Pasi paruppu payasam is ready to be served
