Drumstick kulambu recipe with step by step pictures 


          Are you bored of making drumstick sambar.  Lets try this drumstick kulambu.  It goes well with steamed rice.  This kulambu also had dal and sambar powder like drumstick sambar but With little added ingredients.  It has a grounded coconut mixture which gives you authentic taste.  Give it a try.

Ingredients  :

.  Drumstick - 2  ( chopped 2 inch length)
.  moong dal - 1 cup 
.  Onion - 1 small sized (chopped lengthwise)
.  tomato - 1 medium sized(roughly chopped)
.  turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
.  Sambar powder  - 1 tblsp 
.  Salt to taste 
.  Curry leaves  - 1 sprig 
.  Dry red Chilli - 2
.  mustard seeds  - 1 tsp 
.  Urad dal  - 1 tsp 
.  Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp 
.  Coconut - 1/2 cup grated 
.  Rice flour - 1 tblsp 
.  Oil - 1 tblsp 

Method  : 

          1.  In a pressure cooker,  add moong dal,  tomato,  turmeric powder and sambar powder.  Pressure cook for 3 whistles.  Mash it.  
          2.  Add drumsticks and salt.  Cook for 10 min . 
          3.  In a mixer jar,  add grated coconut and rice flour.  Grind to a smooth paste. 
         4.  Add the ground paste and cook for 5 min.  
        5.  In a kadai,  heat oil.  Add mustard seeds, urad dal.  After it crackle,  add onion,  curry leaves,  dry red Chilli and asafoetida.  saute for 1 min. Pour into dal. 
     6.  Cook for 2 min. Serve. 

Pictorial  :

          1) In a pressure cooker,  add moong dal,  tomato,  turmeric powder and sambar powder. 


          2) Pressure cook for 3 whistles. 


          3) Mash it with a laddle. 


           4) Add drumsticks. Cook for 10 min. 


          5) Add salt.  


         6) Grind coconut and rice flour.  Mix it to dal. Cook for 5 min. 


         7) In a kadai,  add mustard seeds and urad dal.  After it splutters,  add chopped onion, curry leaves,  dry red Chilli and asafoetida. Saute for 1 min. 



        8) Pour into kulambu.  Cook for 2 min.  


        9) Serve.
