Drumstick thokku/ murunkaikaai thokku

Drumstick thokku recipe with step by step pictures 


                 Drumstick thokku is a sidedish for indian curry rice,  sambar rice and even it goes well with steamed rice too.  It can be made with and without the skin of the drumstick.  I usually make the drumstick with the skin.  I just love it when the drumstick is chewed upto the core. Try this recipe and let me know how it turns out to you.

Ingredients  :

.  Drumsticks  - 2 (Chopped 2 inch length)
.  onion - 1 small onion (finely chopped )
.  tomato - 2 small (pureed)
.  Turmeric powder  - 1pinch 
.  Chilli powder  - 1tsp 
.  Coriander powder  - 1tblsp 
.  Mustard seeds - 1tsp 
.  Urad dal - 1tsp 
.  Oil  - 2 tblsp 

Method  :

     1. Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds and urad dal.  

     2.  After it splutters,  add chopped onion . Saute until it turns golden brown.  Add tomato puree.  Saute for 2 min. 

    3.  Add turmeric powder,  chilli powder  and coriander powder.  Mix well.  Cook for 2 min. 

     4.  Add chopped drumsticks.  Mix well.  Add salt.  Mix it and add 1/2 Cup of water.  

    5.  Cover with lid and cook in low flame until water gets dry.  Serve. 


Pictorial  :

         1) Heat oil in a kadai .

        9) Add water.  Cover with lid and cook until it  gets dry.
