Prawn biryani recipe with step by step pictures 


                 Prawn biryani is a south Indian non-vegetarian meal.  Prawns are liked by kids very much even elders too.  Prawn is a sea food and it has many nutritional benefits.  It has no bones and it is easy to feed for kids.  Biryani is a recipe which is liked by almost all foodies.  Prawn biryani has a stong taste of prawns and it is a finger licking recipe.  

                 This homestyle prawn biryani is less spicy yet very tasty recipe.  It is served with any non-veg curries or simply with onion raita.  Check out the tasty prawn biryani recipe below with step by step pictures . Hope you like it.

Ingredients  : 

.  prawns - 1 cup medium sized (approximately 400gms) 
.  rice - 2 cup ( approximately 600gms) 
.  onion - 2 big onion (chopped lengthwise )
.  tomatoes  - 2 medium sized (chopped finely)
.  Green chillies - 2 (slited)
.  ginger garlic paste  - 1 1/2 tblsp 
.  Turmeric powder - 2 tsp 
.  Chilli powder - 2 tsp 
.  Coriander powder  - 1 tblsp 
.  Salt to taste 
.  Curd - 3 tblsp 
.  Mint&coriander leaves  - a handful (tightly packed)
. oil - 2 tblsp 
.  Ghee - 2 tblsp 
.  Cinnamon - 3 
.  cloves - 6
.  cardamom - 3 
.  Star anise - 1 broken 
.  bay leaf - 2
.  cumin seeds  - 1 tsp 
.  Fennel seeds - 1 tsp 


Method  : 


           1.  Wash the prawn throughly.  Add 1 tsp of turmeric powder.  Mix well.  Keep it aside. Soak rice for 1/2 an hour. 
          2.  Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker.  Add whole spices.  Add onion, green chillies.  Saute until golden brown.  Add ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out. 
         3.  Add tomatoes.  Saute until mushy.  Add spice powders and salt.  Mix well.  Cook until oil separates.  
         4.  Add prawns.  Mix it well.  Add curd, mint and coriander leaves . Mix well.  Cook for 10 min in medium flame.  prawns leaves water.  Add required water.  Check for salt and spice.  
         5.  After it gets roll boil, add soaked rice.  Mix well.  Cover with lid.  Pressure cook for 2 whistles.  Switch off the stove. 
         6.  After pressure releases,  Fluff the biryani.  Serve with raita. 


Pictorial  : 

           1) wash the prawns throughly.  Add 1 tsp of turmeric powder.  Mix it.  Keep it aside. 


           2) wash and soak the rice for about 1/2 an hour. Drain the rice and keep it aside. 


          3) Heat oil and ghee in the pressure cooker. 


        4) Add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, star anise, bay leaf, cumin seeds and fennel seeds. 


           5) After it splutters, add chopped onion. 


          6) Add green chillies. 


          7) saute until golden brown. 


          8) Add ginger garlic paste. 


          9) Saute until raw smell goes out. 


         10) Add chopped tomatoes. 


          11) Saute until it becomes mushy. 


          12) Add remaining turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and salt. 


        13) Mix well.  Saute until oil separates. 


        14) Add prawns.  


        15) saute for a min. 


        16) Add curd. 


        17) Add mint and coriander leaves. 


         18) Mix well. Cook for 10 min in medium flame.  Prawns leaves out water. 


         19) Add 3 1/2 cup of water. Check for salt and spice. 


         20) After it gets roll boil, Add soaked rice. Mix well. 


         21) cover with lid. Pressure cook for about 2 whistles. 


         22) After pressure releases, fluff the biryani. 


         23) Serve with raita. 


Note : 

         1.  This recipe is less spicy yet tasty.  If you like spicy food,  then you can adjust the quantity of spices. 
         2.  I used normal rice.  For 2 cups of rice,  i added 4 cups of water.  If you are using basmathi rice,  then add 2 cups of water for 2 cups of rice. 
         3.  Prawns itself leaves out water while cooking.  So Adjust the quantity of water.  For 2 cups of rice, i have added 4 cups of water ( 3 1/2 cup water + 1/2 cup water leaves out by prawns).
