White chickpea sundal/ chana sundal/ vellai kondakadalai sundal

White chickpea sundal recipe with step by step pictures 


                White chickpea sundal is a traditional snack.  It is commonly cooked on thai pongal festival and vinayagar chadurthi (ganesha chadurthi).  I often make it as a snack and it is very healthy.  It is very easy to cook recipe.  It is made by soaking chickpea , pressure cooked and followed by simple tadka.  We can simply pressure cook chickpea and can serve it but Making sundal with some onion and coconut enhances the taste of it.  Hope you like it and let me know.

Ingredients  : 

.  white chickpea - 1 cup 
.  Oil - 1 tblsp 
.  Mustard seeds - 1 tsp 
.  Urad dal - 1 /2 tsp 
.  Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp 
.  Curry leaves - 1 sprig 
.  Dry red chilli - 2 
.  asafoetida - 1 pinch 
.  Onion - 1 medium sized  (finely chopped)
.  coconut - 1/4 cup (grated)
.  salt to taste 


Method : 

           1.  soak white chickpea overnight or 8 hours.  Pressure cook chana with some salt for 3 whistles. Strain chana and keep it aside. 
           2.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds, urad dal and cumin seeds. After it crackle,  add curry leaves, dry red Chillies, asafoetida and chopped onion.  Saute until it becomes translucent. 
        3.  
Add cooked chana.  Add salt.  Saute for 2 min.  Add grated coconut.  Toss it well.  Switch off the flame.  Serve. 


Pictorial  :

         9) Saute for 2 min.  Add grated coconut. 


        10)Toss it well.  Switch off the flame. 


         11) Serve.
