Beetroot poriyal recipe with step by step pictures
Beetroot poriyal is a sidedish recipe for vegetarian meal. Beetroot is liked by kids very much as it has sweet taste of its own. This beetroot poriyal is my everyday recipe. I often make it as a sidedish. But sometimes i serve it as an accompaniment for rice and it tastes too good.

Ingredients :
. Beetroot - 5 medium sized
. Onion - 1 big onion (finely chopped)
. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
. Dry red chillies - 4
. Oil - 1 tblsp
. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
. Urad dal - 1 tsp
. Bengal gram dal - 1 tsp
. Grated coconut - 3 tblsp
. Salt to taste
Method :
1. Wash and peel the skins of the beetroot. Grate the beetroots finely.
2. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds, urad dal and bengal gram dal. After it splutters, add chopped onion, curry leaves and dry red chillies.
3. Saute for a min. Add grated beetroot. Saute for 2 mins. Add salt. Mix it well. Drizzle 1/2 cup of water. Cover and cook until it is done. Stir inbetween.
4. Add grated coconut. Mix well. Cook for a min. Beetroot poriyal is ready to be served.

6) Saute until it becomes soft.
7) Add grated beetroots.
8) Saute for 2 mins. Add salt.
9) Mix well. Add 1/2 cup of water.
10) Cover and cook until it gets completely cooked and water gets dried. Stir inbetween.
11) Add grated coconut.
12) Mix well and cook for a min.
13) Beetroot poriyal is ready.
