Thalicha sadam/ tadka rice/ leftover rice recipe

Thalicha sadam recipe with step by step pictures 


                Thalicha sadam is a lunch recipe that can be made with fresh cooked rice or even with leftover rice.  I usually made it for dinner as i have leftover rice and wanted to finish it without any sidedish or accompaniments. This recipe dont take much time to cook and it is very tasty.  The main ingredients are onion and turmeric powder.  The aroma of turmeric powder and crunchy onion makes this recipe tastes delicious.  This recipe was taught by my mom.  Hope you like the recipe.  Give it a try and let me know.

Ingredients : 

.  Cooked rice -  4 cup 
.  Onion -  1 big onion (chopped lengthwise) 
.  Tomato -  1 medium sized(chopped lengthwise)  
.  Green chillies -  4 (slited)  
.  Curry leaves -  1 sprig 
.  Turmeric powder -  2 tsp 
.  Oil -  1 tblsp 
.  Mustard seeds -  1 tsp 
.  Urad dal -  1 tsp 
.  Bengal gram dal -  1 tsp 
.  Salt to taste


Method : 

            1. Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds.  After it splutters,  add urad dal and bengal gram dal.  Let it become golden brown. 

           2. Add onion,  green chillies and curry leaves.  Saute for 2 mins.  Add tomato.  Saute for a min.  Add turmeric powder.  Saute for few secs.

           3. Add cooked rice and salt.  Toss well.  Cook in medium flame for 3 mins.  Mix well.  Serve.

             1) Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds.

             5) Add chopped tomato. 


             6) Saute for a min. 


             7) Add turmeric powder.


             8) Saute for few secs.


             9) Add cooked rice.


           10) Add salt.


          11) Mix well.  Cook for 3 mins in medium flame.  Toss well.


           12) Serve.


Note : 

          Do not overcook onion and tomatoes.  The crunchiness of the onion gives you the better taste.  Do not mushy the tomatoes,  just saute for a min. Do not skip bengal gram dal.
