Muttaikose poriyal / Cabbage stir fry

Muttaikose poriyal recipe with step by step pictures 


              Muttaikose (Cabbage)  poriyal is a sidedish recipe for south-indian vegetarian meal.  This poriyal is very easy to cook and tastes yummy.  My mom says that this poriyal is ideal for lunch,  when we are cooking for more members.  Cabbage is very easy to chop and cook,  also we get more quantity and suitable to serve for more members.  It is less spicy and tasty.  If you wish,  you can add some finely chopped carrots or beans,  or you can add soaked moong dal or some fresh peas to give extra punch to this recipe.

Ingredients   :

.  Cabbage  -  2 cup (shredded) 
.  Grated coconut  -  3 tblsp
.  Oil  -  1 tblsp
.  Mustard seeds  -  1 tsp
.  Urad dal  -  1 tsp
.  Curry leaves  -  1 sprig
.  Green chilli  -  1 ( as per your taste) 
.  Salt to taste

Method  :

           1. Wash and chop the cabbage. 

           2. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and urad dal.  After it crackle,  add curry leaves and green chilli. 

          3. After it sizzle,  add chopped cabbage.  Saute for a min. 

          4. Add salt and drizzle 1/4 cup of water.  Mix well.  Cover and cook for 5 - 7 mins or until it gets dried. 

         5. Finally add some grated coconut.  Mix well for a min.  Switch off the flame.  Cabbage poriyal is ready. 


Pictorial   :

          4) After it splutters and turns to golden brown,  add curry leaves and green chilli. 


          5) After it sizzle,  add chopped cabbage. 


         6) Saute for a min. 


        7) Add salt and drizzle 1/4 cup of water.  Mix it well. 


        8) Cover and cook for about 5 mins or until water gets dried. 


        9) Add some grated coconut. 


       10) Toss well for a min.  Switch off the stove. 


        11) Muttaikose (Cabbage)  poriyal is ready to be served.
