Carrot kurma recipe with step by step pictures 


                Carrot kurma is a sidedish recipe for idli,  dosa,  chapathi, paratha.  This kurma is a simple version with less spice powders.  This kurma has carrot alone and it is little sweet due to the carrots.  You can add other vegetables too.  It tastes yummy and goes well with idiyappam too.  Try this and give your valuable comments.

Ingredients   :


.  Carrot   -  1 cup (chopped into small cubes) 
.   Onion  -  1 medium sized ( finely chopped) 
.   Green chillies   -  3 (slited)  (as per your taste,  add more if you want spicy) 
.   Tomato  -  1 medium sized ( finely chopped) 
.   Ginger garlic paste  -  1 tblsp
.   Curry leaves   -  1 sprig 
.   Oil  -  1 tblsp
.   Cumin seeds  -  1 tsp
.   Turmeric powder  -  1 tsp
.   Garam masala  -  2 tsp
.   Salt to taste
.   Coconut  -  3 tblsp (grated) 
.   Fried gram  -  1 tblsp
.   Fennel seeds  -  1 tsp


Method  :


             1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker.  Add cumin seeds.  After it crackle,  add onion,  curry leaves and green chillies.  Saute until onion becomes soft. 

            2. Add ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out.  Add tomato followed by turmeric powder and salt. 

            3. Saute until tomato becomes mushy.  Add chopped carrots.  Saute for a min.  Add garam masala.  Mix well.  Add water. 

           4. Grind Coconut, fried gram and fennel seeds in a mixer jar by adding 1/4 cup of water.  Add it to kurma.  Mix well. 

           5. Cover with lid.  Cook for 1 whistle.  Turn off the stove.  Garnish with coriander leaves.  Serve.

Add slited green chillies.  Saute until onion becomes soft


Add ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out


Add chopped tomato.  Saute for few secs. 


Add turmeric powder and salt 


Saute until tomato becomes mushy


Add chopped carrots


Saute for 2 mins


Add garam masala.  Mix well for a min. 


Add 1 1/2 cup of water


In the meantime,  take grated coconut,  fennel seeds and fried gram in a mixer jar


Grind it by adding 1/4 cup of water


Add the paste to kurma


Mix well.  Check for salt


Cover with lid.  Pressure cook for 1 whistle.  Add chopped coriander leaves ( i haven't any and so i didn't added).  Turn off the stove


Carrot kurma is ready.  Serve with idli, dosa or chapathi
