Pachai payaru sundal recipe with step by step pictures 


             Pachai payaru sundal is a healthy snack recipe of south-india.  It is a easy and quick recipe.  I often make it as a evening time snack.  The crunchiness of onion and grated coconut enhances the taste of the sundal.  Try this healthy snack at your home.  Hope you like it.

Ingredients   : 


.   Pachai payaru / green gram  -  1 cup
.   Oil  -  2 tsp
.   Mustard seeds  -  1 tsp
.   Urad dal  -  1/2 tsp
.   Onion  -  1 small sized (finely chopped) 
.   Curry leaves   -  1 sprig
.   Dry red chillies   -  2 
.   Asafoetida / hing  -  1 pinch
.   Grated coconut  -  3 tblsp
.   Salt to taste 

Method  : 


             1. Soak green gram overnight or about 8 hours.  

            2. Add green gram in hot water along with some salt.  Cook for 5- 8 mins or until green gram gets cooked.  Strain the green gram. 

          3. Heat oil in a kadai.  Add mustard seeds and urad dal.  After it sizzle,  add onion,  curry leaves, hing and dry red chillies.  

         4. Saute until translucent.  Add cooked  green gram.  Add salt if required.  Saute for a min.  Add grated coconut.  Toss well. Green gram sundal is ready.

Cook for 5 -  8 mins or until it gets cooked


Strain the green gram


Heat oil in a kadai


Add mustard seeds and urad dal


After it crackle,  add finely chopped onion, curry leaves, hing and dry red chillies 


Saute until onion becomes translucent 


Add cooked green gram


Saute for a min


Add grated coconut 


Toss it well.  Switch off the flame


Pachai payaru sundal is ready to be served
