Vazhakkai bajji recipe with step by step pictures
Vazhakkai bajji is one of the most common evening time snack in almost all south-indian homes. It is a very easy to cook recipe within 5 mins. This is like all the other bajjis which is dipped in batter and deep fried in oil. You can prepare the batter in the time of heating the oil. Today i made it in my home because its raining and this vazhakkai bajji is a great snack to have while raining.

Ingredients :
. Vazhakkai /raw banana - 1
. Besan flour / gram flour - 1 cup
. Rice flour - 2 tblsp
. Chilli powder - 1 tsp
. Turmeric powder - 1/8 tsp
. Baking soda - 1 pinch
. Salt to taste
. Hing / asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
. Oil for frying
Method :
1. Heat oil for frying. In the meantime, take plantain (vazhakkai) . Cut the edges and peel the skin.
2. Soak in water to avoid colour changes. Slice the vazhakkai using slicer or with knife.
3. Take gram flour in a bowl. Add rice flour, chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, hing, baking soda. Mix well.
4. Add water to make a medium consistency batter. Dip the vahakkai slice into batter and drop it in oil.
5. Cook both the sides in medium flame for 2 mins. Strain the bajji. Serve this hot vazhakkai bajji with Coconut fried gram chutney

Take gram flour in a bowl
Add rice flour, chilli powder, turmeric powder, hing, salt
Add water and mix well to make medium consistency (neither thick nor thin) batter
Add baking soda and mix well
Heat oil for frying
Dip the vazhakkai slice in batter
Drop it in oil. Keep the flame to medium
Cook both the sides for 2 mins until golden brown
Strain the bajjis
Vazhakkai bajji is ready to be served. I served it with Coconut fried gram chutney
