 Kothamalli thuvayal recipe with step by step pictures



              Kothamalli thuvayal is a traditional recipe which is served as an accompaniment for rice . It is a very easy to cook recipe with only few ingredients. It is served with hot rice and topped with gingelly oil. The aroma of coriander leaves and taste of dal makes the rice too good. This thuvayal is little thick in consistency . You can add water to adjust as per your requirement. Hope you like the recipe. Give it a try.

Ingredients  : 

.  Oil  -  1 tblsp
.  Urad dal  -  1 tblsp
.  Channa dal  -  2 tblsp
.  Dry red chillies  -  2
.  Hing / asafoetida  -  1/4 tsp
.  Tamarind  -  1 inch piece  (as per your taste) 
.  Grated coconut  -  1/4 cup
.  Coriander leaves  -  1 handful (tightly packed) 
.  Salt to taste 


Method  :


         1. Heat oil in kadai. Add urad dal, channa dal, dry red chillies. Saute until golden brown. 

         2. Add hing, tamarind, grated coconut. Saute for a min. Add coriander leaves. Saute until it shrinks. 

       3. Let it cool. Transfer to mixer jar. Add salt and grind to coarse paste by adding very little water. 

      4. Transfer to bowl. Serve.
