 Moong dal tomato gotsu recipe with step by step pictures



              Moong dal tomato gotsu is a sidedish    recipe for idli dosas. It is a easy to cook recipe that you can make it within 15 - 20 mins. I often cook this gotsu for breakfast. We can add brinjal to this gotsu  but today I made it without brinjal. It tastes too good and I serve it along with Coconut fried gram chutney  .  This gotsu is little watery and it is perfect for idli. You can make it thick by adding more dal to it. Ingredients  : 

.  Moong dal  -  1/4 cup
.  Tomato  -  2 medium sized
.  Turmeric powder  -  1 tsp
.  Green chilli  -  1 
.  Oil  -  2 tsp
.  Mustard seeds  -  1 tsp
.  Onion  -  1 medium sized  ( finely chopped) 
.  Asafoetida  -  1/4 tsp
.  Salt to taste
.  Sambar powder  -  2  tsp
.  Coriander leaves  - 1 tblsp ( finely chopped) 


Method  : 


             1.  Wash moong dal and take it in pressure cooker. Add tomatoes, turmeric powder and green chilli. 

             2. Pressure cook for 3 whistles. After pressure releases, try to remove the skin of tomatoes. Mash it well. 

             3. Heat oil in kadai. Add mustard seeds. After it splutters, add chopped onion and asafoetida. Saute until onion becomes translucent. 

             4. Add mashed dal. Mix well. Add salt and sambar powder. Add 1 cup water. Mix well. Cook for 5 mins. 

            5. Add coriander leaves. Cook for a min. Turn off the flame. Moong dal tomato gotsu is ready. Serve.

           Cut the tomatoes into two halves and add it to dal in pressure cooker



        Add turmeric powder and green chilli


                  Add 1 cup of water to it


                Pressure cook for 3 whistles


            Try to remove the skin of tomatoes but it is optional


             Mash it with traditional mathu


                         Heat oil in a kadai


                         Add mustard seeds


        After it splutters, add finely chopped onion and asafoetida


           Saute until onion becomes translucent


                     Add mashed dal to it


               Add sambar powder and salt


            Add 1 cup of water and mix well


                            Cook for 5 mins


              Add chopped coriander leaves


          Cook for a min. Turn off the flame


           Tasty moong dal tomato gotsu is ready to serve
