Mushroom gravy/ sidedish for chapathi

Mushroom gravy recipe with step by step pictures 







             Mushroom gravy is a spicy and yummy sidedish for Indian flat breads like Chapathi, paratha, naan, roti and even for dosas.  It is a basic gravy recipe with Coconut paste.  Adding Coconut paste or Coconut milk enhances the taste of the gravy.  Do try at your home and sure you like it.

Ingredients   :

.   Mushroom   -  1 cup ( cut into 2 pieces) 
.   Onion  -  2 medium sized (finely chopped)
.   Ginger garlic paste    -  1 tblsp 
.   Tomato  -  2 small sized  (pureed) 
.   Oil  -  2 tblsp
.   Cinnamon  -  4
.   Cloves  -  4
.   Cardamom  -  2
.   Fennel seeds  -  1/2 tsp
.   Turmeric powder   -  1/4 tsp
.   Chilli powder -  1/2  tsp
.   Coriander powder   -  1 tsp 
.   Kulambu powder   -  1 tblsp
.   Garam masala  -  1 tsp 
.   Salt to taste
.   Coconut paste   -  1/4 cup 
.   Coriander leaves to garnish 

Method  : 


             1.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add whole spices.  After it sizzle,  add onion.  Saute until soft.  

            2. Add Ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out.  Add tomato puree.  Saute until the colour changes.  

            3. Add spice powders and salt.  Saute for few secs.  Add Mushroom.  Saute for a min. Cook in low flame for 5 mins.   It leaves water.  

            4. Add 1 cup of water.  Cook in medium flame for 5 mins.  Add Coconut paste.  Mix well.  Cook until oil separates. Garnish with coriander leaves. Turn off the flame.  Mushroom gravy is ready.

                       Heat oil in a kadai


Add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and fennel seeds


After it sizzle,  add finely chopped onion 


Saute until onion becomes soft


Add Ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out


Add tomato puree (grind 2 roughly chopped tomatoes in a mixer jar to make puree) 


Saute until the colour changes


Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, Coriander powder, garam masala, Kulambu powder and salt ( you can replace kulambu powder with any curry powder) 


Saute for a min


Add Mushroom 


Saute and cook for 5 mins.  It leaves water


Add 1 cup of water


Cook for 5 mins


Add Coconut paste 


Mix well and cook until oil separates.  Turn off the flame


Garnish with coriander leaves 


Mushroom gravy is ready to be served
