Paruppu keerai masiyal recipe with step by step pictures 


                Paruppu keerai is a healthy recipe that you must include in your food once in a week.  It has dal and spinach and it is perfect for kids.  It is a quick recipe if you cleaned the spinach already.  I usually cleaned the keerai before and store it in refrigerator for next day.  Do not store it for more than a day.  This is a very simple method that you pressure cook dal and spinach,  mash it with laddle and temper it.  Try out this.

Ingredients   :

.   Sirukeerai  -  1 bunch ( remove the stems)
.   Toor dal  -  1/2 cup 
.   Onion  -  1 medium sized (roughly chopped) 
.   Tomato  -  1 medium sized ( roughly chopped) 
.   Green chilly  -  1 
.   Cumin seeds  -  1 tsp
.   Garlic cloves  -  4 nos. 
.   Turmeric powder  -  1 tsp
.   Salt to taste 

To temper :

.   Mustard seeds  -  1 tsp
.   Urad dal  -  1 tsp
.   Dry red chillies  -  2 


Method  :


           1.  Remove the stems and wash the spinach.  Roughly chop it and keep it aside. 

           2.  Wash dal and take it in pressure cooker.  Add onion,  tomato,  garlic,  cumin seeds,  green chilly and turmeric powder.  

          3. Add 1 cup of water.  Pressure cook for 3 whistles.  After pressure releases add spinach,  mix well and pressure cook for 1 whistle. 

         4. Mash it with a laddle.  Add salt and temper with mustard seeds,  urad dal and dry red chillies.  Cook for 2 mins in medium flame.  Sirukeerai paruppu masiyal is ready.

           Remove the stems of sirukeerai 


Roughly chop and wash it


Wash toor dal.  Take it in pressure cooker


Add roughly chopped onion, tomato, garlic cloves, cumin seeds,  green chilli and turmeric powder


Add 1 cup of water


Pressure cook for 3 whistles 


Add sirukeerai 


Mix well


Pressure cook for 1 whistle 


After pressure releases,  mash it with a laddle (mathu) 


Add salt


Temper with mustard seeds, urad dal and dry red chillies 


Cook for 5 mins in medium flame.  Switch off the stove


Sirukeerai paruppu masiyal is ready to be served
