            Karuveppilai (curry leaves) is a must ingredient in south-indian cooking.  It has many medicinal qualities.  It is very good for hair growth.  But most of us dont eat curry leaves.  So karuveppilai thuvaiyal is a better option to include more curry leaves in our food.  It tastes too good and it can be served with sesame oil or ghee.  This karuveppilai thuvaiyal goes well with rice as well as idli,  dosas.  

           It is a easy to cook recipe.  In south-india,  most of the houses have curry leaves tree in their backyard. And so karuveppilai chutney can be made often.  You can make this karuveppilai thuvaiyal within 10 mins. Give it a try.  The aroma of curry leaves feels too good at eating.

Ingredients   :


.   Karuveppilai / curry leaves   -  2 cups (lightly packed) 
.   Coriander leaves   -  4 sprig 
.   Shallots / small onion  -  10 nos. ( roughly chopped) 
.   Garlic cloves  -  8 nos. 
.   Dry red chillies   -  3 
.   Tamarind  -  1 pinch 
.   Oil  -  1 tblsp
.   Urad dal  -  1 tsp
.   Bengal gram dal  -  1 tsp
.   Cumin seeds  -  1 tsp
.   Salt to taste  

Method  : 


            1.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Add urad dal,  chana dal,  cumin seeds.  After it sizzle and turns to golden brown,  add shallots,  garlic and dry red chillies. 

           2. Saute until onion becomes translucent.  Add tamarind followed by curry leaves and coriander leaves. Saute for a min.  Turn off stove. 

           3. Let it cool and transfer to mixer jar. Add salt.  Grind it to coarse paste by adding little water. Mix sesame oil to it and serve.

Add urad dal,  channa dal,  cumin seeds


After it sizzle and turns to golden brown,  add shallots,  garlic cloves and dry red chillies 


Saute until onion becomes translucent 


Add tamarind 


Add curry leaves and coriander leaves 


Saute for a min.  Turn off the stove


Let it cool and transfer to the mixer jar


Add salt


Grind it to coarse paste by adding little water


Healthy and tasty karuveppilai thuvaiyal is ready
