Semiya kichadi / semiya bath/ vegetable vermicelli kichadi

Semiya (vermicelli)  kichadi recipe with step by step pictures 


             Semiya kichadi is a simple,  quick and tasty breakfast of south-india.  I often cook semiya for breakfast whenever i dont have idli dosa batter at home.  It is a easy recipe that you can cook within 15 mins.  I have already shared Semiya upma recipe.  To make semiya upma even more tastier and flavourful,  this semiya kichadi is a better option.  Do try at your home.

Ingredients   :


.   Semiya  -  1 packet
.   Oil  -  1 tblsp
.   Cinnamon   -  2
.   Cloves  -  2
.   Onion  -  1 medium sized (finely chopped) 
.   Curry leaves   -  1 sprig
.   Green chillies  -  2 (slited) 
.   Ginger garlic paste  -  1 tblsp
.   Tomato  -  1 small sized (finely chopped) 
.   Turmeric powder   -  1 tsp
.   Salt to taste
.   Veggies (carrot, potato, peas)   -  1 cup (finely chopped) 
.   Coriander leaves to garnish 

Method  : 


             1. Heat oil in a kadai.  Add cinnamon and cloves.  After it sizzle,  add onion,  curry leaves and green chillies.  

            2. Saute until  translucent.  Add Ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out.  Add tomato.  Add turmeric powder and salt. 

           3. Saute until mushy.  Add veggies.  Saute for 2 mins.  Add 1/2 cup of water.  Cook until veggies gets cooked. 

           4. Add semiya.  Add 1 cup of water.  Mix well.  Semiya gets immersed.  Mix well.  Cover and cook for 3  -  5 mins.  Add coriander leaves.  Switch off the flame.  Semiya kichadi is ready.

                        Heat oil in a kadai


Add cinnamon and cloves


After it sizzle,  add finely chopped onion, curry leaves and green chillies.  Saute until onion becomes translucent 


Add Ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out


Add finely chopped tomato 


Add turmeric powder and salt 


Saute until tomato turns mushy


Add veggies


Saute  for 2 mins


Add 1/2 cup of water


Cook in medium flame until veggies gets cooked well


Add semiya


Add 1 cup of water ( do not add more water,  add to immerse semiya) mix well


Cover and cook for 3 - 5 mins in low flame until it gets dried and cooked well ( stir in between) 


Switch off the flame.  Garnish with coriander leaves 


Tasty semiya kichadi is ready to be served
