Vazhaipoo poriyal / banana flower stir fry

Vazhaipoo poriyal recipe with step by step pictures

Vazhaipoo poriyal is a healthy and tasty poriyal recipe.  Vazhaipoo (banana flower)  has many medicinal properties in it.  Including vazhaipoo in our food is very good for health.  But it is not like other vegetables.  It takes much time to clean and i rarely cook this vazhaipoo poriyal.  I usually clean this a day before and store it in refrigerator.  It is convenient to cook in a busy day.

For the first time,  Cleaning vazhaipoo made a disaster for me.  My hands and nails turns black and it takes a week to get rid of it.  Then i came to know that we have to use any gloves or apply some oil to the hands before cleaning vazhaipoo.  Vazhaipoo poriyal tastes little bitter and to avoid the bitterness,  soak the chopped vazhaipoo in buttermilk.  But my mom says that bitterness is its unique taste and she cooks it without soaking in  buttermilk.  Try this recipe and you like it.
