Chicken gravy recipe with step by step pictures 


              Chicken gravy is a sidedish recipe for Indian flat breads like Chapathi, naan, paratha, parota,  and also for idli,  dosas and can also be served as an accompaniment for rice.  This chicken gravy is a easy to cook recipe and can be done within 20 - 30 mins.  I often make it for weekend breakfast.  It was my family's favorite recipe.  Try at your home and sure you like it.

Ingredients   :


.   Chicken  -  1/2 kg
.   Onion  -  2 big sized (finely chopped) 
.   Ginger garlic paste   -  1 tblsp
.   Tomato -  2 medium sized  (pureed) 
.   Oil  -  1 tblsp
.   Cumin seeds  -  1 tsp
.   Turmeric powder   -  1 tsp
.   Chilli powder  -  2 tsp
.   Coriander powder  -  2 tsp
.   Garam masala  -  2 tsp 
.   Salt to taste
.   Kasuri methi  -  2 tsp
.   Grated coconut   -   1/4 cup
.   Fennel seeds  -  1 tsp
.   Coriander leaves to garnish


Method  : 


           1. Wash chicken with plenty of water.  Keep it aside.  Take grated coconut and fennel seeds in a mixer jar.  Grind it to a smooth paste by adding little water. 

         2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker.  Add cumin seeds.  After it sizzle,  add onion.  Saute until it becomes soft.  Add ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out. 

        3. Add tomato puree.  Saute until it changes the colour.  Add spice powders along with salt and kasuri methi.  Saute until oil separates. 

       4. Add chicken pieces.  Mix well and cook for 2 mins.  Add 1 cup of water.  Add Coconut paste.  Mix well.  

       5. Cover with lid.  Pressure cook for 3 whistles.  After pressure releases add coriander leaves.  Chicken gravy is ready.

Grind it to a smooth paste by adding little water.  Keep it aside


Heat oil in a pressure cooker


Add cumin seeds


After it splutters,  add finely chopped onion


Saute until onion becomes soft


Add Ginger garlic paste.  Saute until raw smell goes out


Add tomato puree ( grind 2 tomatoes in a mixer jar to make puree) 


Saute until it changes the colour


Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, Coriander powder, garam masala, salt and kasuri methi


Mix well and saute until oil oozes out


Add chicken pieces


Mix well and cook for 2 mins


Add 1 cup of water ( to get thick gravy add 1 cup of water,  add as per your consistency)  


Add ground Coconut paste


Mix well


Cover with lid.  Pressure cook for 3 whistles


Add coriander leaves 


Tasty chicken gravy is ready to be served
