Drumstick fry recipe with step by step pictures 


                Drumstick fry is a sidedish recipe for south-indian vegetarian meal.  It is a simple to cook recipe.  Like other poriyal recipes,  i have added some sliced onions to it but it is optional. The sliced onion gives you better taste.  I served it with curd rice.  Try it and let me know how it turns out to you.

Ingredients  :

.  Drumstick  -  2 ( chopped into 2 inch pieces) 
.  Onion  -  1 medium sized (sliced) 
.  Curry leaves  -  1 sprig
.  Turmeric powder  -  1 pinch
.  Kulambu powder  -  1 tblsp
.  Oil  -  2 tsp
.  Mustard seeds  -  1 tsp
.  Urad dal  -  1 tsp
.  Salt to taste

Method  :

         1. Heat oil.  Add mustard seeds and urad dal.  After it splutters,  add sliced onion and curry leaves.  

        2. Saute until it becomes soft.  Add drumstick.  Saute for a min.  Add turmeric and kulambu powder along with salt. 

       3. Saute for a min.  Add required water.  Cover and cook until it gets dry.  Drumstick fry is ready. 

Pictorial   :

          1) Chop the drumstick into 2 inch pieces. 


          2) Heat oil in a kadai. 


          3) Add mustard seeds and urad dal. 


          4) After it sizzle,  add sliced onion and curry leaves. 


          5) Saute until it becomes soft. 


         6) Add chopped drumstick.  



         7) Saute for a min. 



         8) Add turmeric powder,  kulambu powder and salt. 


         9) Mix it for a min. 


         10) Add required water (about 2 cups). 



         11) Cover and cook for 10- 15 mins or until it gets cooked fully and gets dry. 


         12) Drumstick poriyal is ready to be served.
