Arisi paruppu sadam recipe with step by step pictures
Arisi paruppu sadam ( dal rice) is a famous recipe of kongunadu cuisine. It is one of my favourite rice recipe which is very healthy and tasty. It is a one pot recipe which is very easy to cook. It has nice aroma of dal and freshly ground jeera and pepper. This dal rice is suitable for kids and for kids, you can adjust the spice powders. Do try at your home.

Ingredients :
. Rice - 1 cup
. Toor dal - 1/4 cup
. Oil - 2 tblsp
. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
. Urad dal - 1 tsp
. Onion - 1 big sized (sliced)
. Tomato - 1 medium sized (finely chopped)
. Turmeric powder - 1 /2 tsp
. Chilli powder - 1 tsp
. Salt to taste
. Garlic cloves - 6
. Cumin seeds/jeera - 1 tsp
. Black pepper - 1/2 tsp
Method :
1. Soak rice and dal for 1/2 an hour. Grind garlic, cumin seeds and black pepper in a mixer jar. Keep it aside.
2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds and urad dal. After it splutters, add onion. Saute until soft.
3. Add tomato. Saute until mushy. Add spice powders, salt and ground garlic. Saute for a min.
4. Add water. After roll boil, add rice and dal. Mix well. Cover with lid. Pressure cook for 2 whistles. After pressure releases, fluff the rice. Arisi paruppu sadam is ready.

Soak rice and toor dal for 1/2 an hour
Take garlic cloves, cumin seeds and black pepper in a mixer jar
Grind it to coarse powder without adding water. Keep it aside
Heat oil in a pressure cooker
Add mustard seeds and urad dal
After it splutters and turns to golden brown, add sliced onion
Saute until soft
Add tomato
Saute until mushy
Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and ground garlic and spice powder
Saute for a min
Add water ( for 1 cup water+1/4 cup dal, add 2 1/2 cup water)
Let it comes to roll boil
Add soaked rice and dal. Mix well
Cover with lid. Pressure cook for 2 whistles.
After pressure releases, fluff the rice
Tasty and healthy arisi paruppu sadam is ready. I served it with Brinjal pepper fry
